Problem / Concept Introduction
Plants need the right amount of water to grow, but it’s often difficult to know exactly when soil is dry or when plants need hydration. Farmers and gardeners frequently rely on guesswork, which can lead to wasted water or unhealthy plants.
Today, engineers solve this problem using smart sensors and automated irrigation systems that monitor soil conditions and deliver water only when needed.
The Project Experience
In the Smart Green project, students design and build their own intelligent plant monitoring system.
Using soil moisture sensors and simple electronics, students create a smart setup that can detect when the soil becomes dry and signal when the plant needs water.
Through hands-on building and experimentation, students discover how technology can support sustainable agriculture and responsible water usage.
